Are you planning on moving soon and you need to find the perfect apartment? Perhaps you’re a landlord updating a rental property with new floors.

Whether you’re a landlord or a renter, the type of apartment flooring you have plays a huge role in the look and feel of the apartment. Factors like durability, maintenance, and more should impact your decisions.

We can teach you how to choose an apartment that fits your needs. Here’s what you should know before making that commitment or signing that rental agreement.

Price

The first thing to consider is your budget, as luxury flooring will inevitably cost more. Renters looking for apartments should weigh the pros and cons of that luxe apartment feel with the cost that comes with it.

Carpet in apartments is very common and easy to maintain. Carpet is warm, cozy, and generally cost-effective. It’s a solid choice for bedrooms and living rooms.

However, if you’ve recently replaced the carpet, it’s important to keep in mind that pets can do a number on it. From urine stains to ripping it up, carpeting isn’t a great choice for dogs and cats.

Many apartments require a pet deposit, which can help landlords cover the cost of cleaning flooring like carpeting.

Durability

How long the floor will last should be one of your main concerns as well. Tenants with pets and landlords on a budget should consider choosing more durable floors.

One of the better options for pet-friendly rentals is luxury vinyl, which can withstand scratching and staining.

Hardwood floors are a beautiful choice, and they can boost the value of an apartment, but they’re expensive to install. Pets and furniture can also damage hardwood floors.

Carpet is cheap to install but often needs replacing as it can get dirty after even one tenant. Laminate flooring is durable but also needs replacing, especially in pet-friendly apartments. Laminate can also look ‘cheap,’ although there are higher-end options that can mimic the look of hardwood floors.

Room Location

The type of flooring you want in the living room isn’t necessarily the same flooring you’ll want in the bathroom or kitchen. In a bathroom, you want floors that are moisture-resistant, such as tile.

Tile in apartments is a great choice for rooms that need to stand up to water, such as the kitchen and the bathroom. Remember, tile is a more expensive option, and that may affect the rental price. However, tile can be a great investment for landlords as it lasts, and you can replace a section rather than the whole floor.

Rooms such as the living room and bedrooms often benefit from the cozy feeling of carpet. These areas are also less likely to see spills and stains.

Climate

Lastly, the apartment flooring you should prefer will depend largely on the climate where you live. For example, the flooring in these Forest Lake Apartments in Minnesota might differ from an apartment in Florida where the weather is totally different.

You’ll have to think about what you’re bringing into the apartment and which types of flooring are most durable.

Choosing the Best Apartment Flooring

As a tenant moving to a new place, you should consider your lifestyle and budget before deciding on the best apartment flooring. If you have pets, choose a pet-friendly apartment with more durable flooring, but expect to see some extra deposits or fees.

Landlords should also consider budget and durability, as well as the look and feel they want. Hardwood is beautiful but not always the best choice for rentals.
