Each covering type varies in terms of price, upkeep, and application. Let’s get started choosing the best garage floor coating for you.

1. Epoxy

There’s a reason epoxy is considered the best garage floor coating. This durable coating can stand up to anything. It also comes in a wide variety of styles and colors.

Not only does it look beautiful, but it can also withstand cold, heat, and anything your life throws at it. Epoxy is not a form of paint. It is actually a resin coating that gets mixed with a polyamine. Polyamine is what gives epoxy it’s toughness.

Unlike paint, it won’t chip and crack under pressure or extreme temperatures. Epoxy bonds at such a high level it’s virtually unbreakable. You can easily wipe off stains, car oil, and everyday messes.

In addition to its tough exterior, epoxy will transform your garage space. With a variety of looks, you can get any style or color you can imagine.

2. Concrete Sealer

If your budget is tight, a concrete sealer can give your floor some protection. While it won’t last as long as epoxy, a sealer will help keep stains off your floor.

A concrete sealer will add a nice sheen to your floor. It will also keep your floors looking fresh.

3. Interlocking Tile

If you use your garage for working out, an interlocking tile can give you a nice protective layer of cushion. You can use these to hide cracks and minor imperfections.

Interlocking tiles come in a wide variety of colors and styles. Combining tiles allows you to create fun patterns. These are great for home gyms. Interlocking tiles aren’t waterproof, however, and they will stain and wear over time.

4. Carpet

Carpet is an easy and inexpensive option to install. Carpet is easy to layout and will cover minor imperfections. Carpet will also cover cracks. Carpet isn’t a hard and sealed surface, however.

Your carpet can stain and rip over time. If you use your garage as a hangout space or a gym, the carpet will help keep the floor warm and provide a nice cushion. The carpet is also quick to install.

Carpet comes in a variety of colors and styles. You’ll want to use an industrial or outdoor carpet to make it last longer.

5. Concrete Stain

Concrete stain helps to protect your concrete. It also helps keep stains off. It’s easily wipeable and offers a nice layer of protection. Concrete stain comes in several colors. Depending on the stain your floor will have a pretty sheen and stone-like look.

If your floors are cracked or stained, this will show through your stain. You want to have as clean and smooth of a floor as possible. It will last longer than paint but is nowhere near as durable as epoxy.

6. Paint

Paint is an inexpensive way to update the look of your garage floor. Paint isn’t very durable, however, so you will need to touch it up often. Paint can chip and peel under pressure, heat, and cold.

Your car and regular usage will also chip the paint over time. With proper care and maintenance, you can touch up your paint as needed.

7. Peel and Stick Tiles

Peel and stick tiles are another easy way to update your garage floor. These tiles stick right to your cement. These are inexpensive and come in a variety of styles.

These tiles are made of durable vinyl. They are laid directly on top of your cement garage floor. Although they are tough, they will peel and chip over time.

The thickness of the tile will cover cracks and stains easily. You can cut the tiles in whatever shape or pattern you prefer.

Garage Floor Covering Ideas That Fit Your Lifestyle

With all this extra time spent at home, the garage has become more important than ever. Garages are extensions of your home. Whether you use them for storage or for entertainment, the possibilities in your garage are endless.

Before you choose a floor, consider what you’d like to get out of your garage. Let’s say you want extra space to workout. You can do a combination of epoxy on the entire floor, and then add mats or soft tiles to your workout area.

If you’d like to get some extra outdoor entertainment space, epoxy will keep your floor protected from the elements, as well as party guests. Cracked glass and stains won’t damage your floors. You’ll also have a beautiful look that reflects the style of your home.

Garage Floor Ideas 101

Whatever you have in mind, there are garage floor ideas for everyone. You and your family will love how much extra living space you gain by coating your garage floor. Any investment you make is money well-spent when it comes to resale as well.
